Will my 2 mares ever buddy up??

i have been in this same boat before too with my mare and new gelding. they would sniff each other and look at each other sizing the other up. finally ginger ( the mare) kicked at charlie (the gelding) but missed because her legs were too short for the distance apart they were standing. (they were standing with there s facing each other) so charlie kicks her hard in her (she wasnt hurt or anything) and put her in her place. horses just have to establish who is the boss and who isnt. after a couple of weeks charlie and ginger were impossible to seperate. lol. when ever one would be taken out to ride, the other would whinny and run around the fence wanting the other to come back. just give it time and they should warm up to one another. good luck!!!
